Watching movies and TV shows on-the-go is pretty normal nowadays, thanks to the advent of the iPod and the iPhone. Take a look around next time you're on a train and notice all the commuters have basically turned your carriage into an extension of their lounge - all they're missing is a beer fridge (probably a bit tricky to get one on the 18:20 from West Norwood). Well, the clever chaps and chapesses behind the Vuzix Video iWear have gone one step further and taken the image from your teeny portable media screen and put it right in front of your eyes. In your sunglasses, in fact. That's right, these sunglasses have screens in the lenses that, when viewed in conjunction, give you a great quality picture.
You can opt for the 280 or 920 versions (both are ace), each having their own range of features. The 280 version transforms your piffling little iPod screen into the equivalent of a 51-inch display viewed from a 10ft distance, so the advantages in quality and your ability to immerse yourself in what you're watching are huge. What's more, you can even watch 3D movies on it - talk about keeping up with the Joneses. Even better, the 280 has both a 16:10 and 4:3 aspect capability - widescreen! This is the only product on the market that offers this feature, so you can feel all smug as you see absolutely everything the director intended. You can also adjust the contrasts and volume (there are some pretty nifty noise-reducing earphones attached) to your heart's content, or so you can still hear the train announcements.
Anyone feeling particularly flash should opt for the 920 version - it's a bit lighter and more powerful, meaning that the 'screen' balloons to an incredible 67 inches in effect. Not in reality, of course. It'd take your head off. Still, the quality is incredible and the main thing is that it turns those tiresome plane journeys and commutes into great, immersive cinema experiences.
Both models are incredibly easy to use - simply attach your media device of choice, play a movie and sit back. There's an in-line remote that allows you to adjust anything you feel like adjusting, volume and contrast and such, and the stylish look of the glasses themselves makes the whole operation almost imperceptible. Your only concern might be giggling ungainly at the latest comedy whilst looking like a total maniac to your travel companions. As long as you keep that under control, these Vuzix Video iWear packages are the business.

Great fun, indoors and out
The first time I put on these glasses I had a bit of a shock. The picture was great, the sound was too but it wasn't the fully immersive experience I had been expecting. The image didn't look a lot bigger than the flat screen in the lounge and I could see my feet. In fact there was an inch gap ath the bottom of the glasses I could put my finger up in and scratch my eye! I realise now that this is so you can use them in public spaces and not fall down the nearest set of steps, however you'll only be wearing them in public if you want to look a bit of a dork. They really do sit a long way from your face so they are not inconspicuous when you are wearing them. Having said all that I love them and keep on wearing them in the house and garden. The wire is a bit of a pain but no worse than headphones if you've got them plugged into your ipod. The image is better in the dark and as soon as Vizux bring out their accessories I will buy the wrap around light screen but on the whole I think they are great fun and anyone thinking of buying a pair should just do it!

Works straight out of the box
I brought this as a present for my wife who is terrified of flying. I figured if she felt like she was sitting in the living room with surround sound, then the airplane would disappear (obviously not really – that would be scary!) She was delighted with them and they did work straight out of the box. They really do give you a great feeling of watching on a big screen. The fact that you can adjust each screen to match your eyes is a great feature as you don’t have to wear your glasses. The built in ear-phones are good quality and the volume easily adjusts. On the downside I would say that they are a tad heavy on the bridge of your nose, and you do look like a complete Muppet with them on, but it's a small price to pay. I would totally recommend them - one of the coolest gadgets around.
