Introducing us to a world of ethical fabrications and Fair Trade practices, Devon based lifestyle brand Nkuku proves that fashion can indeed be friendly.
Founded in 2006 by husband and wife duo, Alex and Ali, Nkuku has remained true to its ethical roots. Whilst travelling Africa and Asia, the pair fell in love with the genuine nature of the continents’ traditional techniques. Ten years on and their brand continues to embrace the unique nature of artisanal crafts, sourcing products and materials from craftsmen and women around the world.

Supporting an approach to design and manufacture that maximises the benefits to people, communities and the environment, Nkuku is one of a kind. As well as putting artisans and traditional skills on a global platform, the company works closely with Fair Trade projects. Their aim is to ensure that craftspeople from disadvantaged backgrounds secure training and employment in their chosen sector and that women of all backgrounds feel empowered in the workplace.
Working closely with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives, Nkuku’s ethos stretches further than the products they source. Forging strong business relationships with individuals and groups, the company ensures a prosperous future for younger generations. Creating a long-term; project, the idea of fast fashion is thrown away in favour of a more sustainable method of manufacture. No unnecessary pressure is placed on production or on the environment and capacity is never exceeded. Resources are not inexhaustible and in making sure that materials are not depleted, Nkuku ensures the future of the product and the environment it comes from. Many products are handmade from recycled materials or derive from other industries’ leftovers.
This summer Nkuku introduce new ranges to their already extensive collection. Find hand welded planters and terrariums, perfect for your indoor cacti and succulents.
