Many's the time we've thought how life is incomplete without an animatronic Guinea Pig to hand, so imagine our joy when we found Gupi. To some he's little more than a battery operated canapé, but to us Gupi is a friend and companion for life - or at least until the next virtual pet comes along.

Gupi

You may remember the mad craze for "Tamagochi" pets a while back - well, Gupi is not just streets ahead, but whole city blocks more advanced. Small and furry, Gupi is festooned with all sorts of electronic wizardry to make him a truly interactive virtual pet. He has sensors in his eyes, so he can shuffle about the house without bumping into things, and in his legs, so he won't go and fall off steps or the table - and he's so smart he can even find his way in and out of a maze!

Aside from being able to wander about without clonking himself, he has different moods and behaviours depending on how you treat him, and makes more than thirty different sounds (which we're guessing is a great deal more than your average Guinea Pig). If you don't play with him he becomes lonely and scared, and he'll go off and hide in a dark place, but if you stroke him he'll feel loved, and will be happy. Gupi can also hear you, and will react to voices and sounds, depending on his mood. When happy he'll actually come running at you when you call him, but when he's scared he can't stand noise and will run away from it.

As well as being a moody and affectionate little furball, he also gets hungry, and you'll need to feed him with his own special carrot. This is a charger that goes in his mouth and gives him a boost - he loves it! Each Gupi has its own unique identification codes, so when your Gupi meets other Gupis they will express excited behaviour and will learn gradually how to accept each other, how to share "food" (the magic Carrot), and how to play with each other - but without the drawback of real Guinea Pigs, they won't breed like rabbits, or like Guinea Pigs.

Gupi is the ultimate kids' pet - no litter, no little 'accidents', no sawdust scattered all over the place, and when you go away on holiday he won't go and die on you (leaving you with the cringing task of explaining how life is temporary, we all move on, and let's go and dig a hole in the back garden). At last, a pet that can withstand the rigours of child ownership.

Gupi is so fun! I love the way he just walks around aimlessly and makes all these funny noises!
Ben, St. Helens

Now, THIS is what you call a virtual pet. Never mind those gimicky tamagotchis or cheap plasticky robo-things. We've had a GUPI for a month now and love it to bits. It's cute, cuddly and, quite literally, has a mind of its own. Left to its own devices, it'll wander around your house, making friendly noises, but it's easy to pick it up and stroke it. A sensor inside knows that it's not on the floor any more and it goes into cuddling mode! Following the carrot's IR beam is a useful trick when you want GUPI to come to you, though you can recharge it (takes 90 mins) without the carrot should the latter get lost. This is the perfect thing to get a little girl (mine's 6) who keeps pestering you for a rabbit or guinea pig and you just know that she's not going to muck it out every week. With GUPI (ours is called 'Patch'), there's no mess, just fun when you want it. Recommended!

I received my gupi yesterday a day after ordering it on iwantoneofthose!! It's the cutest, funniest purchase I have ever made. No need for a pet now... I live in student accommodation and now have someone to keep me company... it's amazing how intelligent gupi is!! He loves my tv which is weird!!!
Rebecca, Leeds

Bought this for my nephew's 9th birthday and even Granda could not leave it alone. Brilliant - no one should be without one.
Marilyn P, Wigan

This is such a great toy! My cat is in love with it and sleeps next to it, and my dog thinks it's the greatest thing to chase! I love mine so much that I've bought one as an xmas gift for my best mate!
Holls, Exeter

These Gupis are fantastic. I kept hassling my fiance for a pet and lo and behold, I was opening my presents on christmas morning when I opened a Gupi. I got him out of the box and immediately he was running around the house making his little noises and discovering his surroundings. I then let him have a little snooze while I opened the rest of my presents and guess what?? I got a second Gupi! So now they run about the house and are getting used to their environment and chatter away to each other continuously. They are starting to learn new tricks and respond to my voice and they continually amaze me. Excellent pets for any child - young or old!!
Angie, Ely

Gupi the Guinea Pig is brilliant! My fiance bought me one for Christmas but I think he secretely bought it to tease the dog, but it backfired as the dog follows it everywhere and it keeps her quiet! Gupi is for everyone, not just for kids and not just for adults!!!
anna, southampton

I bought a Gupi (re-christened Stu-pig) for my fiance as a christmas present... actually, after reading all the blurb on it I decided that I did 'want one of those' so decided to own one by stealth under the guise of a 'gift'... far more economical. Anyway, Stu-pig is good fun, he aimlessly scuttles around the place merrily chuntering away to himself, and does what guinea pigs generally do (except without any of the mess). When he gets bored, (after about 5 mins, which is the same boredom threshold as us) he'll send himself off to sleep. Luckily he lets you know where he's parked himself by snoring loudly for a few seconds. Just a word of caution, this thing can travel a fair distance and we have had to hunt him down a few times to locate the little bugger. Overall, he is cute, interactive and great for the novelty value at dinner parties - several weeks on, and we're not bored yet!
Lynne H, London

GUPI is so much fun!! He can get his way out of a maze and amazingly, can get out of my very messy bedroom! But GUPI loves it messy and loves to snuggle up and go to sleep! My rabbit (Sunny)isn't fond of her (our GUPI is called Peppermint) and runs away, but my hamster (Fidget) loves her to bits! So, if u are planning to get GUPI, get it from iwantoneofthose.com and you'll find a new, fun-filled family member on the way!
Alice, Ashford

Brilliant. I bought it for my daughters Christmas pressie. She loved it . Sooo did I. It's brill, I love the way it learns how to stop banging into walls. Great stuff. Keep 'em coming IWOOT. Love it
Janice B, cleveland

I *really, really want* this! I'm hoping to get it at Christmas because I think it's so utterly adorable!! I'm saving every penny towards it and I REALLY hope to get it!!! I LOVE YOU GUPI!!!
Helen, Cornwall

Gupi: I hate to be a killjoy but we were very disappointed with our Gupi. Bought for my 14yr old instead of the real thing! We found it did not live up to its hype and after a week or so the battery gave up. Checked internet reviews and found it was a common problem, Thankfully these lovely people at IWOOT refunded my money after the replacement also failed. Don't suppose this review will be printed! (So sorry you didn't have fun with your Gupi, and of course we'll publish your review).
Pat H, London

Gupi was THE TOP Pressie for my son this xmas he LOVES the way she - yup its gotta gender- runs around getting into mischief !! He has special needs and nothing has EVER caught his imagination or given him so much fun as this little pet has, he really talks to her and tells us all what she has said or what she wants to do ! He loves looking after her and put her down for a nap after playtime and she sleeps on his bed. Its such a brilliant idea, we all love having her around and the best money I have ever, ever spent. Thanx so much bringing us a fab time, you lot are stars XOXOX
Ali P, chelmsford

I thought about this for a whole month before I took the plunge and finally bought one. I can't believe I wasted so much time! GUPI is fantastic. He scurries around making his funny little noises and is so cute he's even melted the hearts of all the scepics in my family. Now when anyone comes round they insists on a stroke. Don't waste time thinking about it, just get one now.
Elaine M, Yeovil

This is soooo cute, I put my real life guinea pig with gupi and he kept chasing it round the house. I think hes in love, how sweet, it's the best, especially if you have another real life guinea pig who is lonely.
Elizabeth, E, Birmingham

My nephew loved Gupi (re-christened George) so much, he asked for a guinea pig hutch for him for Christmas. A grandparent duly obliged and for several weeks George enjoyed a very comfortable life, with soft bedding, regular carrot feeds and a place he could call his own. Sadly, one night in February, his cage door was left open, George escaped and he has not been seen since. My nephew has taken it quite badly and reports of "Daddy, I really miss George" have rallied a fairly large-scale search operation, complete with 'Have you seen?' posters up all around the house. If George doesn't come back soon, I may feel compelled to put another Gupi in his hutch - I'd do it now, were it not for the nagging fear that he'll know it's not George ...
Jo P, London

We bought Guppi for my little sister who is 9 and she loves it. It follows her round the house, enjoys snuggling up and is not that demanding. He evens sleeps when she sleeps... It's a god send, she is so happy. We dont need a real one now. Thanks Iwantoneofthose.
