These rare and strange eggs are of course free range, and are laid by the giant Plant Chickens from the Olduvai Spice Islands that feed exclusively on seeds. Gathered by nomadic beavers they are traded for home improvement catalogues and then shipped north on the sun-glittered sea by fluttering Dhows. This may not be the whole truth, indeed it's possibly anything but the truth, but we're looking into it.
In the meantime, this we know to be true. Looking and feeling like a large egg, they're made from a very porous ceramic, and are filled with a fortified peat mixture and seeds. You just gently crack open the top of your Eggling as if you were about to dunk in your hot buttered soldiers (but don't please), add water and hey presto, you've got a great little plant ready to burst into life. They come with full growing instructions, a terra cotta watering tray - and even a spare packet of seeds. But remember, as with any pet, an Eggling is not just for breakfast, but for life. Actually it's not for breakfast at all, really, don't eat it - though harvesting your parsley and basil crop is of course deeply satisfying.

- The peat contains enough nutrients to home the plants for 5 months, after which the plants can be transplanted into larger pots to bloom.

- Once the Egglings are 'on the grow', place in a bright room with a temperature of at least room temperature (15°C).

Fantastic item!! I got one of these as a flat warming gift and it's fantastic!! I'm a lover of all things kitsch, and this is definitely a fave! It's a plant, but you nurture it like it was one of your own (maybe the egg has something to do with this?!) Well what can I say... I am sitting at my desk trying to work and yet I am constantly distracted by my new little eggling (who I have aptly named 'Johnny Eggbert The Eggling').
